Do I Trust You Enough to Share My Childhood Secrets?, 2019
“Broken Seal” packing tape, digital print map composed of 16 drawings, wall label
53 1/2 x 22 inches

Do I Trust You Enough to Share My Childhood Secrets is composed of an exhibition wall label and a print of drawings affixed facedown to the wall using security tape. As the wall label explains, the print is made up of 16 drawings of sites of personal significance along a hiking trail outside of Moab, UT. This work asks what we expect artists to share and where it is okay to draw the lines between private and public. It also materializes a trust relationship by offering the possibility to the viewer to tamper with the work to see what is on the underside.

Over the past 10 years, many “gateway” communities in the American West have seen exponential increases in tourism and outdoor recreation. I grew up in Moab, Utah, one such destination. This map traces the route of the hike that matters most to me.
